Arboretum hosts Commonwealth-themed activities
Ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire is exploring communities from across the Commonwealth through a series of activities.
Delegates participating in 'Operation Games ' are split into teams of three to six and tasked with joining the hunt to find an opportunistic thief who has stolen the medals for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and stashed them at the Arboretum.
On their journey, each group will visit eight memorials where they will need to decipher a series of cryptic puzzles to find the location of the medals.
This two-hour activity encourages collaboration, teamwork and problem solving while supporting health and wellbeing through walking in nature.
It costs £15 per group and is available until 30 October.
Other components of the Arboretum 's 'Sports, Service and Commonwealth ' programme which is running throughout the summer include an augmented reality experience designed for younger families, exhibitions exploring the Queen and Commonwealth nations and a series of exciting art projects, including a collaborative installation where visitors can leave their mark.
The Birmingham 2022 Queen 's Baton Relay is set to be a highlight of the Arboretum 's summer when it visits on 20 July as part of the full England route.
Several Batonbearers, each with inspiring backgrounds and stories, will have the honour of carrying the baton as it makes its way across the 150-acre site.
“Our new activities at the Arboretum are designed to celebrate international friendships and the diverse communities who live in Britain today, as well as to highlight the important role of sport in the Armed Forces, ” said Emma Syer, business development manager at the National Memorial Arboretum.
“The new activities will appeal to all ages, from corporate groups to multi-generational families, and will complement the free exhibitions, trails and play areas already available to visitors this summer. ”
The National Memorial Arboretum 's 'Sports, Service and the Commonwealth ' summer programme is presented as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.
