Arboretum launches October half-term events
Families of all ages can enjoy a programme of seasonal activities at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The events tun from 14 October to 5 November.
From an autumnal activity trail, crafts and sensory play areas to imaginative storytelling and a Stick Man outdoor trail, families can immerse themselves in an array of activities while exploring the 150-acres of memorials, gardens and woodlands at the Nation’s year-round place to Remember.

Autumn activity trail
Visitors can pick up an activity map from the Welcome Desk and head out around the Arboretum grounds to see if they can spot the hidden pinecone friends, discovering intriguing facts about how the site is taken care of as the weather changes. Once completed, young visitors can return to the Remembrance Centre for an autumnal prize.
The trail runs from 14 October to 5 November between 10am and 5pm. Tickets cost £2.50
November autumn crafts
Children can unleash their creativity by crafting their very own pinecone companions, using natural materials discovered around the Arboretum grounds. Green thumbed visitors can also decorate their own plant pots before planting seeds to watch them grow at home.
The crafts sessions will run from 30 October to 3 November between 11am and 3pm.
Interactive Storytelling (Free, 11am to 3pm, 30 October-3 November)
Featuring Salina Yoon’s story, Penguin and Pinecone, children can watch a tale of friendship leap off the page as skilled storytellers bring the story to life through music, props and creativity.
This is a free event happening from 30 October to 3 November between 11am and 3pm.
Children can enjoy two play areas at the Arboretum, including a Sensory Play Garden full of tactile elements, scented foliage, and traditional play activities while families can join Stick Man on his journey back to the family tree on this ever-popular activity trail featuring Julia Donaldson’s iconic character.
Visitors can collect a free copy of the self-led trail map from the Welcome Desk on arrival.
Rachel Smith, head of participation and learning said: “Autumn is always a beautiful time at the Arboretum and there are many ways for families to enjoy and experience the changing of the seasons this October half term.
“The free activities are a great way for visitors of all ages to explore the beautiful natural landscape of the Arboretum and learn about some of the inspirational stories behind the memorials.”
The activities and entry to the National Memorial Arboretum are free of charge, allowing visitors to explore the 150-acre site, discover over 400 memorials, and visit exhibitions. Booking in advance via the Arboretum website is recommended to guarantee entry and save on parking (£4 in advance, £6 on the day).
