Arup director to join launch of Chamber report

A key figure from design, planning and engineering giants Arup is joining the panel for the launch of the Birmingham Economic Review tomorrow.

Abigaile Bromfield, the firm 's Midlands planning and economics leader, will speak alongside other policy, political and business leaders.

The Birmingham Economic Review is an annual publication written by the University of Birmingham City-REDI in partnership with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.

This year 's report will provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the coronavirus and lockdown measures on the city 's economy and actionable measures that businesses and stakeholders can take to adapt, foster greater resilience and grow.

The Birmingham Economic Review will assess the city 's capabilities for innovation and adaptation, the potential of its resident workforce, the major transport and infrastructure projects on the horizon, how it can achieve inclusive and more ecologically sustainable growth in economic recovery, and opportunities ahead to enhance the attractiveness of the city to visitors and investors.

The report will be launched at a sold-out event at The Exchange in Birmingham.

Abigaile Bromfield (pictured) is a qualified town planner and mediator with a mix of public and private sector experience.

She currently manages the planning, economics and stakeholder engagement teams for Arup Midlands and has worked with Birmingham City Council for over four years on major infrastructure and growth schemes.

In addition, she leads on key regional growth projects including the Commonwealth Games Host City Programme, Toton (HS2 East Midlands) Station delivery corporation advice, the UK Central Hub Growth and Infrastructure Plan.

She was seconded to the Cabinet Office Implementation Unit for the Prime Minister in 2015, advising on improving the implementation of housing, infrastructure and development related policies.

Abigaile 's Arup work combines practical development experience with a strong track in stakeholder engagement and political communication.

Abigaile will join a high profile panel of speakers including Deborah Cadman, CEO of Birmingham City Council, Suren Thiru, head of economics at the British Chambers of Commerce and Professor Simon Collinson, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Regional Engagement, Director of the West Midlands Regional Economic Development Institute (WM REDI) and City-REDI.
