Author and marketing director Lindsay Woodward is to take to the stage at Sutton Coldfield’s first Literary Arts Festival to explore the secrets of how to write a gripping page-turner.

Lindsay (pictured) will present ‘Hooked: How to Write Page Turning Fiction’ at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall on Saturday 12 September, as part of a weekend celebrating authors, poets, storytellers and creatives.

The hour-long talk will take readers and aspiring writers behind the scenes of gripping fiction, exploring everything from creating believable characters and relationships to building tension, controlling pacing and plotting the twists that keep readers guessing.

Lindsay, who has written ten novels spanning romance, comedy, horror, supernatural and science fiction, will also draw on examples from her own books to demonstrate the techniques she uses to keep readers turning the pages.

Lindsay said: “I love talking about writing almost as much as I love actually doing it. I take plotting very seriously and I aim to always make my readers want just one more chapter. But there’s a certain skill behind it.

“I’ll be looking at how I approach my own novels, including how I plan them, how I build characters and relationships and how I create twists.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of Sutton Coldfield’s first Literary Arts Festival and, hopefully, sending people away ready to tell their own unputdownable stories.”

Lindsay has a degree in writing and has been writing professionally for decades. Alongside her own fiction, she is a copywriter, mentors other writers and s regularly speaks about writing, storytelling and the creative process.

'Hooked: How to Write Page Turning Fiction' takes place from 12.45pm to 1.45pm on Saturday 12th September 2026 at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

The daytime programme at Sutton Coldfield Literary Arts Festival is free to attend, although places should be reserved in advance.
