Banking giant 's drive to support education
HSBC UK is joining forces with The Education Awards to support the delivery of financial education across schools across the Midlands and UK.
HSBC UK will be the headline sponsor of the awards, which recognise schools all over the country for excellence in the education sector.
As part of the sponsorship, HSBC UK will develop and deliver projects that will be placed directly back into education.
This will include facilitating access to its network of 1,700 colleague volunteers to schools across the region.
The volunteers are trained to deliver financial education sessions in schools up and down the country and already deliver thousands of sessions each year.
HSBC UK is also sponsoring its own award category, the HSBC Financial Futures School of the Year Award, which will reward excellence in providing financial education for young people in schools.
The banking giant is supporting the delivery of a roadshow, which will visit a number of participating Midlands schools over the course of the next year in order to promote the importance of financial education and the resources available to schools in delivering this.
Annette Whalley, senior education consultant at HSBC UK, said: “We currently work with a wide network of schools in the region, and this new partnership will allow us to reach even more schools across the Midlands and beyond and support them with delivering financial education programmes to pupils of all ages.
“The Education Awards reward best practice and excellence across the sector and we are excited to work closely together in order to drive excellent standards in education, including when it comes to teaching important lessons about money. ”
Jas Rohel (pictured), CEO and founder of The Education Awards, said: “I am so proud to have HSBC UK as our headline sponsor for all regional and national Education Awards.
“To have a huge national sponsor and big global organisation such as HSBC so invested in education is fantastic and I am pleased to be working with the team to drive and promote best practice in education across the Midlands and beyond. ”
West Midlands mayor Andy Street said: “As an ambassador for the Education Awards and having taken part in the first year 's awards, it gives me great pleasure to see a business that started in the West Midlands grow to a national level - working with a national company (HSBC) as headline sponsor which chose our region as its home.
“It 's wonderful news that together they 're helping to reward and recognise excellence in the education sector - including amazing staff. I 'm also pleased to hear that HSBC are delivering much needed financial programmes to educational establishments. ”
Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of Greater Birmngham Chambers of Commerce, said: “The Chamber recognises the importance and actively encourages strong links between business and education, so we are delighted to see one of our patrons, HSBC UK, supporting the Education Awards. ”
