Birmingham charities unite to ‘Walk for Inclusion’
Ten local charities from Birmingham have come together to champion inclusion and diversity while raising funds by organising a Wheel ‘n’ Walk event this Sunday.
Happening at the iconic Bandstand area of Cannon Hill Park from 11am, participants are encouraged wheel, walk, push, cycle, or stroll on as many laps as they wish, raising funds during the process as a personal challenge.
The charities involved are Cerebral Palsy Midlands (CPM), Queen Alexandra Charity, Sense, Birmingham Phab Camps, ParkRide, CASBA Advocacy, SEND Socials Birmingham, Together Minds, NICE and Headway Birmingham and Solihull.
Certificates and medals will be given after the challenge. The event is supported by Irwin Mitchell and Northfield Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS). There is no entry fee to pay so all sponsorship goes direct to the charity the participant wants to support.
Accessibility is at the forefront of the event with disabled parking, mobile changing places and toilet facilities, accessible warm up and necessary additional volunteers.
Sarah Lilly, Development Officer for Cerebral Palsy Midlands who leads the event committee said: “This is my fifth year of organising this event and I’m very much looking forward to it.
“Each year it is fabulous to see the diversity of those who take part whether they take on one or ten laps and the achievement and joy on faces is clear to see.
“Funding for charities remains challenging as does the time and resources available for staff to fundraise for vital resources.
“Joining together as a group of local charities means we can share tasks and resources and bring together an even larger group of people together for a common purpose whilst having a great deal of fun”.
