Birmingham food and drink destination celebrates one-year anniversary
Independent food and drink destination, Society, is celebrating a successful first year in Birmingham after recording month-on-month growth in customer footfall.
Despite ongoing challenges across the hospitality sector, Society has continued to grow since opening its doors in September 2025, welcoming thousands of visitors and serving more than 150,000 pints during its first year.
The venue has become particularly popular with Birmingham’s business community, establishing itself as a go-to destination for lunch, after work drinks and team socials.
As well as creating 50 jobs, Society has strengthened Birmingham’s independent hospitality scene by providing a permanent home for five independent street food businesses, including Birmingham icons Asha’s, who have established their first street food concept at Society.
They also work with a growing network of Midlands suppliers, including local breweries such as Attic.
Society has also invested in Birmingham's creative community, commissioning acclaimed local artist Cold War Steve to create a bespoke mural for the venue – a piece that has become a popular talking point for visitors.
The venue has one of the biggest craft beer offerings in the city - with a rotation of 30 different brews pouring, which has boosted popularity and made Society a firm favourite amongst beer lovers.
This sits alongside an exceptional selection of cocktails, wine and alcohol-free options, as well as a packed programme of live music, quizzes and community events which has also helped establish Society as a destination attracting thousands of guests all day long from Birmingham and beyond.
Looking ahead, the business is set to expand its events programme with brewery tap takeovers, beer tastings, live music, collaborations with local artists including Tat Vision, and a major Oktoberfest celebration, alongside continued partnerships with local breweries and suppliers.
Oliver Smith, Society’s head of operations, said: “Our first year in Birmingham has been fantastic. Despite the challenging backdrop faced by hospitality businesses at the moment, Society Birmingham continues to grow month on month.
“We've been fortunate to build a brilliant team and work alongside fantastic independent traders - and this alongside the support we've had from the people of Birmingham has really allowed us to fly in the city.
“It's great to see so many familiar faces returning week after week, whether they're popping in for lunch, after-work drinks or spending an evening with us. We’ll be officially celebrating our first birthday on Friday 4 September with a venue-wide party, and we’re about to announce lots of great events for Autumn/Winter including our Christmas packages, so we’ll be ending 2026 on a high!”
Nick Gregory, Society’s co-owner, added: "Hospitality businesses have had to work harder than ever to give people a reason to go out, so we're incredibly proud of the response we've had in Birmingham.
“The success of our first year shows there's a real appetite for what Society offers – a place where great independent food, quality drinks and a brilliant atmosphere come together. We're excited to keep evolving that offer over the coming year."
