A new community café run by Birmingham Hospice is set to open in Rookery Park, Erdington.

Hive in the Park will open to the public on Friday 1 May, just after 10am, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Food and drinks will be available, with jazz trio Rhythm and Bone providing entertainment throughout the morning.

Hive in the Park will be open seven days a week and offer good value breakfasts, lunches, sweet treats, children’s food and beverages as well as providing a warm and friendly space for local people.

Director of people and culture, Michelle Stuteley, said: “We have created a welcoming place which will bring the local community together. People can come along and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat while also learning more about the services the hospice provides.

“We would absolutely love for you to come to our Grand Opening and be among the first to see how wonderful our new community café is. We cater for all ages, and we are also very dog friendly.”

The hospice has been part of Erdington since 1910, and the café is an extension of the relationships and connections it has built over many years.

It will take the hospices services into the community, providing information on the range of support it offers people and be available for community groups to book outside opening hours.

The café has also created 40 volunteering opportunities, which will help local people develop skills and give back to the community.

Hive in the Park will be open to the public Monday to Friday 8am-4pm, Saturday 9am-2.30pm and Sunday 10am-2.30pm and its address is Rookery House, Rookery Park, 4 Wilberforce Way, Erdington, B24 9AT.
