Birmingham LGBT launches new support scheme

Birmingham LGBT, the largest LGBTQ+ charity in Birmingham and one of the largest in the UK, has just launched Legends and Icons, a brand-new way to support the charity.

The charity provides support to over 4,000 Birmingham residents a year, offering a range of holistic services including wellbeing, counselling, domestic violence advocacy, substance support and sexual health testing – with the aim of helping them to become happier and healthier.

The new individual giving scheme offers the chance for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to support the charity by becoming a Legend or an Icon.

Sheila Edwards (pictured), business development manager for the charity said: “We’re asking members of our community, and community allies, to consider giving us £10 a month to be a Legend or £25 a month to be an Icon.

“Legends and Icons will get their own newsletter and events … and a lapel badge so that they can publicly demonstrate their support for us.”

Director Steph Keeble added: “Like every charity right now, funds to support our work, especially unrestricted funding, are hard to come by.

“Legends and Icons’ monthly donations will help us to pay for counselling and 1-2-1 support for people, provide support for social and peer-support community groups, and much more.”

The aim over the coming months is to introduce at least £22,000 a year through this new scheme.
