Jess Phillips, the Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at a major leadership conference organised by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.

Ms Phillips (pictured), who was elected as MP for the Birmingham Yardley constituency at the 2015 General Election, will take part in the virtual Growth Through People conference on 30 March.

Before becoming an MP, She worked for Women 's Aid in the West Midlands developing services for victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, human trafficking and exploitation.

Ms Phillips became a councillor in 2012, working tirelessly to support residents, with her work being recognised when she became Birmingham's first ever Victims Champion.

Since becoming an MP, she has continued her fight to support those who need it the most and has earned a reputation for plain speaking since being elected, unfazed by threats and calling out sexist attitudes as she promotes women 's rights.

She has written two bestselling books 'Everywoman One Woman 's Truth About Speaking The Truth ' and 'Truth to Power: 7 Ways to Call Time on BS '.

Both books reflect her commitment to speaking up and having the courage to have your voice heard and make a difference.

Her keynote at the conference will focus on the role of leadership and people management in supporting and empowering local residents to reach their full potential.

Growth Through People aims to improve leadership and people management skills by encouraging the adoption of best practice approaches to leadership and people management.

Delegates can book their places now for the conference, which will feature inspirational speakers, high-profile panellists and practical workshops on topical leadership and people management challenges following the impacts of Brexit and Covid-19.

It will also provide an opportunity to network with other local leaders, managers and decision makers from businesses looking to grow through the adoption of new, best-practice ideas.

It forms part of the month-long 2021 Growth Through People campaign.

Around 400 delegates attended events, webinars and the inaugural conference in 2020, and digital thought leadership, advice and guidance published as part of the campaign received 3.1million impressions on Twitter.

The 2021 Growth Through People campaign and conference are sponsored by the University of Birmingham 's Work Inclusivity Research Centre (WIRC) and BMet College.

Paul Faulkner, chief executive of the Chamber, said: “We are delighted that Jess Phillips will be joining us at this year 's Growth Through People conference to share her experience of leadership and empowering local residents.

“Jess ' work for Women 's Aid and her role as a Member of Parliament offer a unique perspective on the power of effective leadership and management to inspire, support and get the most out of people.
