Passengers using Birmingham Airport are being advised to monitor the advice of their airlines after the airport was impacted by a UK-wide air traffic outage yesterday.

A statement from Birmingham Airport said operations were starting to stabilise following the Bank Holiday Monday outage which led to flight cancellations and delays on flights to and from the UK.

The statement, released via Twitter, said: “Following today's UK-wide air traffic outage, operations at BHX are starting to stabilise, however there has been a number of flight cancellations and delays impacting customers.

“Customers should monitor their airlines' advice and latest info info on our website.

National Air Traffic Services (Nats) confirmed the fault just after midday on Monday, before it announced at 3.15pm that it had identified and remedied the issue.

But it said it would “take some time for flights to return to normal”, as they launched an investigation into what went wrong.
