Eight LGBTQ+ community groups and causes across the West Midlands have received a total of £20,000 from Birmingham Pride.

The funding has come via the Birmingham Pride Community Foundation, an independent organisation that distributes charitable donations from Birmingham Pride festivals.

The foundation is made up of a panel of volunteers, with members drawn from across the Birmingham LGBTQ+ community. The grants awarded have helped to support a number of community groups and causes, including:

  • The X2Y youth group’s Queer Masquerade Ball
  • Birmingham LGBT counselling services
  • A LGBT STEM conference to coincide with LGBTQ+ History Month in 2025
  • Birmingham Blaze FC ‘Football for All’ sessions
  • Rainbow Pooch Pride walks, focusing on enhancing mental health and wellbeing
  • Coaching, training and inclusive kit for Birmingham Unicorns Cricket Club
  • New sporting equipment and bursaries for Birmingham Blaze Rugby Football Club, and
  • The Journey LGBT Asylum Group.

The recipients of the grants were invited to an event at the Nightingale Club earlier this month to receive their funds.

Dr Steve Ball, chair of Birmingham Pride Community Foundation, said: “Birmingham Pride is a wonderful celebration of the LGBTQ+ community which raises the profile of the city and our diverse community.

“But just as importantly it helps to support LGBTQ+ community groups across the West Midlands, who throughout the year provide a wide range of valuable opportunities for LGBTQ+ people of all backgrounds to meet, connect and thrive.”
