Birmingham’s Chinese New Year celebrations go off with a bang thanks to law firm’s support

A Birmingham law firm has said how proud it has been to help the city's Chinese New Year festival go off with a bang after sponsoring the firework display at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Davisons Law, which has offices across Birmingham and the wider Midlands, also helped crowds celebrate the start of the Year of the Horse by handing out 250 traditional Hongbao envelopes at the event on Sunday 22 February.

Hidden inside were a mix of exclusive offers on legal fees, including 20 envelopes carrying a 10 per cent discount and one containing a free legal services prize.

Daniel Stones, director at the firm's Colmore Row office, said: "We are proud to be part of such important and bright festivities right in the centre of Birmingham.

“Chinese New Year is a significant occasion for many of our clients and the wider community, and we were delighted to support this year's celebrations."

The sponsorship reflects the firm's close ties to Birmingham's Chinese community. Davisons Law has a dedicated Chinese-speaking legal team across its Colmore Row and Edgbaston offices, made up of Bernard Yoong and Steve Du (Solicitors), Abby Au (Conveyancer), and Grace Chan (Associate Conveyancer).

Lunar New Year celebrations have been a major fixture in Birmingham's Southside for over a decade, produced in partnership with the Birmingham Hippodrome and the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee, with large-scale events in the area dating back to at least 2012.

The festivities returned to a full in-person, multi-day format in 2023 following a three-year hiatus, with the newly redeveloped Hippodrome Square at the heart of the event. 

This year's celebrations began on Tuesday 17 February with a Chinese market and funfair, before the main event on Sunday 22 February drew tens of thousands of visitors for a full day of entertainment.

Highlights included traditional lion and dragon dances, Kung Fu demonstrations, K-Pop dance performances, live music, free face painting, and street food, with the festivities concluding in the spectacular firework display sponsored by Davisons Law.
