US Ambassador welcomed to Birmingham for talks

The U.S Ambassador to the UK met businesses in Birmingham for roundtable talks, organised by Greater Birmingham Transatlantic Chamber of Commerce and BritishAmerican Business.

Ambassador Jane Hartley was welcomed to The Ivy Collection in Birmingham city centre, where she held discussions with several US owned or headquartered companies who are a presence in the West Midlands.

Her goal was to develop a deeper understanding of US investment in the region.

Joining the Ambassador were representatives from RSM, Goldman Sachs, NCH Europe and Autodesk.

During the visit to Birmingham, the Ambassador also met Global Chamber president Mark Smith, executive director for business engagement at Aston University, to here about Aston Business School's work with Goldman Sachs. 

Sian Timmins, the Chamber’s head of international divisions, was instrumental in organising the roundtable talks.

She said: “Thank you the Embassy of the United States of America, London for the opportunity to host Ambassador Hartley.

“The Ambassador wanted to meet with US owned/headquartered businesses with a presence in the West Midlands so she could get an understanding of US investment in the region, as well as the opportunities and challenges.

“It was also a great opportunity for us to promote the strengths in our great city and region.

“Thank you so much to our guests for attending - Helen Brocklebank from RSM UK, Gurjit Jagpal of Goldman Sachs, Silvano Bisconti from NCH Europe and Nathan Brown of Autodesk.

“A huge thanks also to The Ivy Collection Birmingham for a superb job in hosting us.”

Following the visit, the Ambassador posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Great to have the opportunity to hear from US and UK business leaders in Birmingham about the work they are doing to invest in young people, and how we can support greater transatlantic trade and investment."
