Birmingham wellness clinic marks nine years of service

A Birmingham-based wellness centre is marking nine years since opening its doors, having grown from a single service to a multi-disciplinary clinic supporting clients across the Midlands.

Active Clinics, founded in 2016 by Tammy Takkar, first introduced cryotherapy to the region after Takkar’s own recovery journey.

After enduring a period of domestic abuse, Tammy discovered her inner strength, refocused on her studies, and went on to start her first business.

Later, following a major medical operation, she travelled overseas for treatment and was introduced to cryotherapy. What local doctors had projected as a six-year recovery was cut dramatically shorter — an experience that inspired her to launch the clinic.

Since then, Active Clinics has expanded its range of treatments, offering services such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, Fusion Cold Atmospheric Plasma therapy, laser hair removal, microneedling, IV drips and menopause consultancy.

The centre also launched Active Academy, a VTCT-approved training institute for aspiring practitioners in the wellness sector, training over 200 students.

The clinic has continued to innovate through challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, and in recent years has been recognised with high patient ratings and international partnerships, including authorisation to deliver Dr Schrammek’s medical-grade skin treatments.

Over nine years, they had treated 4000 patients - building long-term relationships and advocating for the inside-out approach to wellbeing.

Some of Active Clinics’ notable high-profile clientele include athletes and celebrities such as UFC World Champion Leon Edwards, Indian cricket legend Ravi Shastri, Punjabi music icon AP Dhillon, as well as Premier League players from Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

During the past 12 months alone, the clinic has achieved a 35 per cent increase in client volume.

The attentive care given to clients has made Active clinics well known for the ‘memorable experiences’ it creates, as told by many positive reviews on Google. They are rated 4.8 out of 5 on Google with 157 reviews and a complete 5 out of 5 rating on Fresha with 290 reviews.

Looking ahead, Active Clinics plans to expand its services further, with a focus on integrative health — combining natural therapies with medical-grade treatments — to meet growing demand in the city’s wellbeing sector.

Tammy Takkar said: “When I look back at where we started nine years ago, it’s humbling to see how far Active Clinics has come.

“From introducing cryotherapy to Birmingham to building a trusted hub for wellbeing, the journey has been about growth, resilience, and putting our clients first.

“The support from our community and the dedication of our team have been central to that progress.”

Most recently, Tammy has also been shortlisted as an Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur of 2025 by the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce.

Business partner Hilal Mehdi said: “Our focus now is on the future — expanding our services in ways that meet the changing needs of our clients.

“We want Active Clinics to remain at the forefront of integrative health, blending natural therapies with medical-grade treatments.

“The next chapter is about innovation, accessibility, and making sure people in Birmingham and beyond feel supported in every stage of their wellbeing journey.”
