Birmingham-based charity Smart Works is celebrating nine years of transforming lives across the West Midlands – with over 5,000 sessions delivered and 4,724 women supported.

Hailing the ninth anniversary, centre manager Ann Powell said: “What began as a small but determined service has grown into a thriving centre of support, hope and opportunity for women who need it most.

“In nine years, our volunteers, staff and supporters have helped thousands of women take the next step in their journey into work. The impact has been extraordinary:

“Over 5,000 sessions have been delivered – providing practical support, coaching and interview preparation. 4,724 women have been supported – each with their own story, challenges and aspirations.”

She said countless lives had been transformed – with women moving into sustainable employment and renewed confidence.

“At the heart of our success is our community. Every volunteer, partner and donor has played a role in making sure women in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands have access to the tools and belief they need to succeed. Together, we’ve built a service that not only provides clothing and coaching but also restores confidence, dignity and hope.

“As we look ahead to our tenth year, our commitment remains the same: to ensure no woman feels alone in her search for work. The challenges facing women in our region are complex, but with compassion, collaboration and determination, we know what can be achieved.

“To our volunteers, supporters, funders and, above all, to the women who put their trust in us …thank you. Your strength and generosity are the true measure of Smart Works Birmingham’s impact.

“Here’s to the next chapter.”
