A Burton Albion Football Club staff member will be jetting off to the Volta Region of Ghana on a lifechanging adventure, the region itself being one of the poorest in the country.

Zoe Bailey, who works in the ticketing and events department at the Pirelli Stadium will help the locals with building projects and teach lessons to children.

Burton Albion Community Trust has teamed up with African Adventures, who operate multiple group volunteer programmes to the to Africa and the trip takes place between 23 March to 2 April 2024.

This year's group will be hoping to build on last year's success after they built a school, completed the canteen they started in 2022 and painted classrooms in the local school Tegbi EP.

The trip is funded partly by donations and strongly by sponsorship from local companies and Zoe has kindly received Sponsorship from local company Greif. Greif is one of the leading suppliers of industrial packaging products and services and have a branch in Burton upon Trent.

Zoe  said: "I really can't wait to go. I'm so excited to head to Ghana.

I've never been before and speaking to others who have experienced the trip themselves, it really is a life changing experience. Hopefully when I head out there, I can make a real difference to the lives of the local people.

"We are always on the lookout for donations and sponsorship.

The money raised goes towards our fundraising efforts, supporting Burton Albion Community Trust and also to helping support the local people out there in Woe."

Paul Gaskin, community manager at BACT said: "After the success of last year's trip, we can't wait for Brewers in Ghana 2024 to kick-off.

“Making a difference to the community in East Staffordshire is the mission of BACT but being able to run this trip, with the fundraising proceeds going back in to local work as well as providing members of our community with a life changing opportunity is incredible.

“Alongside this we will always try and make as much of difference to the community and lives of the people in Woe as we possible can in the short time we are there.”
