Broadcaster and Birmingham advocate joins forces with wife to help grow mortgage business
Birmingham-based broadcaster, presenter and entrepreneur PJ Ellis has joined forces with his wife Kelly Ellis to help grow her successful mortgage and protection business, Mortgage Bab.
Kelly, the founder of Mortgage Bab, built the business after making a bold career change from radio into financial services.
After training with the St. James’s Place Academy, she launched the company during the COVID-19 lockdown.
With little external support and starting entirely from scratch, she has spent the last seven years building a thriving business that now supports clients across the region with
mortgages, life insurance, critical illness cover and wider financial protection.
PJ, known locally for his work in the media and community initiatives, will now support the next phase of the company’s growth, focusing particularly on helping businesses understand how protection can support their people.
He will work with organisations to raise awareness of solutions such as Relevant Life policies, which allow companies to provide personal life cover for employees in a tax-efficient way through the business.
PJ Ellis said: “Kelly has built something incredible. She took a huge leap leaving radio, retrained in a completely new sector and launched a business during lockdown with no safety net.
“Seven years later she’s absolutely smashing it. I’m incredibly proud of her and excited to help grow Mortgage Bab to the next level.”
While PJ will focus on expanding relationships with businesses and employers, Kelly will continue leading the firm’s core offering, supporting clients with mortgages and personal protection including life insurance and critical illness cover.
Mortgage Bab is now entering a new phase of growth, with ambitions to scale the brand and bring additional advisers into the business.
Kelly is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for women in financial services and hopes to build a female-led advisory team under the Mortgage Bab brand, supporting the next generation of advisers to build their own successful careers in the sector.
With PJ now joining the business to support its growth, Mortgage Bab is set to expand its reach while maintaining the personal, human approach that has helped it build a loyal and growing client base.
