Bull sculptures head to auction to raise funds for charity
Birmingham Hospice will host the Bulls in the City Auction Night on Thursday, 16 October at Millennium Point - with all proceeds going to the charity.
The evening will see the much-loved bull sculptures from the city's vibrant summer trail go under the hammer to raise vital funds for Birmingham Hospice.
Art lovers, philanthropists and corporate supporters are encouraged to register to attend and bid for a chance to take home a unique piece of local art – and contribute to a cause that touches thousands of lives each year.
Launched earlier this year in partnership with Wild in Art, the Bulls in the City art trail captured the hearts of Birmingham residents and visitors alike. A 128-strong herd of bull sculptures was installed across the city in celebration of Birmingham’s culture, creativity and community.
Each sculpture, uniquely decorated by local and national artists, told a story – from Birmingham’s industrial past to its vibrant present.
The trail attracted thousands of visitors and created a buzz across the city throughout the summer. Alongside its cultural value, it helped raise awareness of the work Birmingham Hospice does every day to provide expert end of life care and support for individuals and families across the region.
The upcoming auction night, supported by Auction House Birmingham & Black Country, is the grand finale to this successful project – and a chance for supporters to make a lasting difference by bidding on their favourite bulls.
There will be 37 lots available for bidding, including blank ‘calf’ sculptures and a few celebrity lots including a mini bull painted by Alison Hammond.
Lucy Watkins, income generation director at Birmingham Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support shown by the community throughout the Bulls in the City trail.
“The funds raised through this auction will directly support our services and help us continue delivering compassionate care across Birmingham. Please do bid big and help us give back to the community.”
Chris Edwards, managing director at Auction House Birmingham & Black Country, said: “This is a rare opportunity to own a striking piece of public art while supporting an exceptional cause. We’re proud to be part of such a meaningful event.”
The Bulls in the City Auction will be hosted at Millennium Point, doors open from 5.30pm with bidding starting at 7pm. The evening will be compared by local Brummie icon PJ Ellis and the auction will be led by TV’s Chris Edwards.
