Travel and Tourism students organised a travel-themed showcase event in Burton and South Derbyshire College 's Mulberry Bistro as part of an induction activity.

Students had designed boarding cards that were sent as invites to 40 guests which they were then asked to bring with them on the day to 'check-in '.

During check-in, guests were given seat numbers and learners guided them to their seats where there were safety demonstration cards which had been designed by the learners. Students then offered refreshments to guests via a trolley service before a series of talks began.

The event opened with the learners delivering a range of public announcement speeches, including 'Welcome Onboard ', 'Safety Demonstration ' and 'Arrival ' messages. Learners then carried out presentations, sharing information on Travel and Tourism courses, international work experience and the charities that travel and tourism support.

Marie Toone, Travel and Tourism course leader said: “The learners have only been with us a short space of time and worked really hard to create an amazing event that linked to the industry perfectly.

“Our BSDC skills promise was embedded throughout the showcase, from their communication skills when speaking to 'passengers ', teamwork where they all worked together to deliver the event, IT skills where they created their own boarding cards and PowerPoint presentations, and finally, creating experiences like this makes them job ready and a perfect example to talk about in an interview. ”
