Burton YMCA hosts local Rotary Club
YMCA Burton & District welcomed The Burton Rotary Club president, Peter Groves and president elect, Ruth James, to look around their Burton Furniture store and services at Reconnect, their Adult Homeless Centre.
During the tour, there was an opportunity to talk about the work that YMCA Burton does, including providing affordable furniture through the shops, emergency food parcels from the Foodbank, Mediation and Counselling and all other services, which have a transformational impact within the community.
Peter said: “On behalf of The Rotary Club of Burton upon Trent, I would like to thank members of YMCA Burton for our visit recently.
“They gave my senior vice president and me a warm and informative welcome. We visited The Furniture Shop, which helps to supply clothes and furniture.
“Also, the Reconnect Centre, which serves as a Foodbank and support for the homeless. I can't praise enough the dedicated staff and volunteers we met and their obvious enthusiasm for the service they provide.
“Thank you so much for the invitation.”
Chief executive Paul Laffey added, “It was wonderful to have President and President Elect, Peter Groves and Ruth James, visit the YMCA.
“The staff and I enjoyed showing them a number of our projects and introduced them to a number of our services.
“We have an ongoing and established relationship with The Burton Rotary Club and it was wonderful to meet up and speak about our services and discuss the impact we have within our community.
“We spoke about fundraising events, including our biggest event of the year, our upcoming Sleepout, which takes place on Friday 7 November.
“Our team is very passionate about their work and I am very grateful to Peter Groves and Ruth James for their time and interest shown during their visit.”
The Burton Rotary Club is recruiting members and welcomes anyone interested.
