Burton YMCA sleepout announces new headline sponsor
Burton and South Derbyshire College has been announced as the headline sponsor for local charity, YMCA Burton’s annual fundraising Sleepout event.
The event, which is in its 17th year, will take place on Friday, 7 November and is being held at two locations Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium and the XTREME event at St Modwen’s church graveyard.
Burton and South Derbyshire College have supported and worked in collaboration with YMCA Burton for many years.
Amrit Virk, assistant principal - Marketing, Business Development and International, said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the YMCA Sleepout fundraiser.
“The event plays a vital role in raising both awareness and funds to help tackle homelessness, and we’re proud to support the YMCA’s ongoing efforts to make a difference in our community.
“As a College, we’re committed to standing alongside the YMCA in their mission to create positive change and improve people’s lives.”
The YMCA Sleepout has become a significant event in the town each year with thousands of people participating since it began back in 2008, with participants ranging in age from 2 to 93 - it is an event suitable for all to take part in.
Speaking about the partnership, chief executive, Paul Laffey, said: “We are thrilled to have the support of Burton and South Derbyshire College as our headline sponsor for our largest fundraising event.
“The College have been wonderful supporters of YMCA Burton for many years. We have worked collaboratively with staff and pupils in raising awareness of homelessness, family mediation and foodbanks.
“This event offers people the opportunity to experience how it would feel to be homeless for one night only and not have a bed to sleep in.
“The Sleepout not only helps us to raise awareness of homelessness but also much needed funds to keep our projects running.

Sleepout is a chance to spend the night sleeping outdoors to raise awareness and fundraise for YMCA Burton, who operate homeless outreach facilities, housing, foodbank, affordable furniture through their shops and mediation & counselling services in the East Staffordshire Borough area.
