Business leaders invited to help shape support for young people across the West Midlands

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), in partnership with Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC), is inviting employers from across the region to take part in an exclusive roundtable discussion focused on improving employability support for young people.

The event, taking place on 30 September at Millennium Point in Birmingham, will bring together business leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the Government's Youth Guarantee Offer and explore how employers can play a central role in supporting skills development, career progression and sustainable employment outcomes for young people across the West Midlands.

Chaired by Andy Dawson (pictured), president of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, the session will provide a forum for employers to share their experiences,discuss emerging priorities and recommendations, and identify practical opportunities to engage with and support young talent.

Discussions will focus on employer perspectives of the support currently on offer and developing creative ideas to shift the dial on youth unemployment in the West Midlands.

Andy Dawson said: "Young people are one of the West Midlands' greatest assets, but unlocking their full potential requires close collaboration between employers, education providers and policymakers.

"This roundtable is an opportunity for business leaders to help shape the conversations and solutions that will influence the future workforce.

“Employers understand better than anyone the skills, experiences and support that young people need to succeed in the workplace, and I would encourage businesses of all sizes to join us and share their insights.

"By working together, we can create more pathways into rewarding careers, help businesses access the talent they need to grow, and ensure that young people across our region can fulfil their potential."

The event will take place from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7AP.
