Business Travel Network being established in Burton
A new Business Travel Network (BTN) is being established in Burton.
The initiative is being orchestrated by Staffordshire County Council and Atkins, who have received funding from the Department of Transport (DfT) in response to the pandemic and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to implement Travel Demand Management (TDM) measures and raise awareness of the impacts of poor air quality via the council 's Air Aware project.
Such TDM measures are enacted to help people to reconsider how they travel to work.
One of the measures to help support workplaces and their employees make changes is the establishment of several Business Travel Networks (BTN) across Staffordshire.
A BTN has already been launched in Cannock, with further BTNs planned in Burton and Leek.
The BTNs will provide a platform for supporting and co-ordinating travel planning activity, encourage car sharing and use of sustainable transport, such as walking, cycling and use of public transport, to deliver a reduction in commuter trips to towns, alleviate impacts on journey times and deliver transport improvements.
Staffordshire County Council say that the BTNs will enable major businesses, local authorities and public transport operators in each of these three towns to share experiences, discuss common travel issues and work together through stakeholder and partnership engagement to increase active and sustainable business travel in their respective town.
It will provide the business community with the chance to develop and implement practical solutions to improve staff commuting, with support from transport operators and local authorities.
Burton 's BTN launch event will take place on 3 August and will be a virtual event hosted on Microsoft Teams.
A presentation will be provided by Atkins, covering the benefits of joining the BTN as members, the results of the council 's Business Travel Survey in 2020, and examples of recent success stories for sustainable travel in Burton.
