Greater Birmingham based businesses are being urged to voice their views on what barriers they may on achieving net zero carbon emissions and what support they may need to help achieve these goals.

Views are being sought via a poll, organised by British Chambers of Commerce, which is seeking business views to help shape national policy lobbying in the run-up to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), being held later this year in Glasgow.

The net zero survey aims to identify what measures businesses are taking on net zero, the barriers they may be facing and what support they need.

The survey also covers business growth plans and reopening following the pandemic.

Information gathered via the survey will be used to inform and develop Chamber business support and lobbying activity relating to the net zero transition.

The survey takes 10 minutes to complete and will close on 23 July.

Will Hargreaves (pictured), environmental policy lead at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, emphasised business leaders, no matter what their views on climate change are, to take part in the survey.

He said: “The Government 's net zero target and subsequent emissions reduction of 78 per cent by 2035 from 1990 levels is welcomed. We recognise the urgency of the climate crisis and need for businesses to take actions.

“However, despite many businesses taking action to decarbonise, policy and business support must help encourage business progress to net zero.

“Climate change and the net zero transition will affect every business to varying degrees. I urge business leaders, no matter their views on climate change, to partake in this survey, to help the Chamber direct support and update policy on a local level, but crucially at a national level in partnership with the British Chambers.

“The last British Chambers survey on net zero was used to inform our recently released policy recommendations and helped shape our Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero campaign ”
