Businesses in Greater Birmingham are being invited to share their thoughts on a Games Transport Plan that is being prepared for next year 's Commonwealth Games.

The Secretary of State for Transport has formally directed the West Midlands Combined Authority to prepare a transport plan for next summer 's sporting extravaganza.

In 2020, Transport for West Midlands released a draft consultation for stakeholders which is due to be published in its final form in January 2022.

During the Games, more than one- million people will travel around the region to training and competition venues.

Businesses are being encouraged to share their views on the Games Transport Plan via email - [email protected]

The Games Transport Plan can be accessed here.

The deadline for responses is 24 September

Raj Kandola, head of policy at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “With less than a year to go until this landmark occasion, it 's great to see the steps that Transport for West Midlands is taking to ensure that businesses can continue to thrive during this exciting period.

“However, for this plan to be fully effective, it requires detailed feedback from the business community as it covers a range of topics including sustainable transport options and how we can make better use of public space.

“We would urge firms in the city to share their thoughts before the September deadline so TFWM can put a blueprint in place which will minimise disruption and costly delays. ”

The opening ceremony of the Games will take place at Birmingham 's Alexander Stadium on 28 July, 2022

The Chamber is marking the one-year to go landmark by highlighting opportunities for the business community.
