Cancer support charity’s golf day raises £3,427
The Cancer Support Centre's second annual Charity Golf Day took place blue skies and soaring temperatures at Walmley Golf Club – with nine teams helping to raise a total of £3,427.
The event was once again organised to raise vital funds for the Cancer Support Centre in Sutton Coldfield, a charity that provides crucial support to individuals and families affected by cancer.
The Cancer Support Centre is also the chosen charity of the Royal Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce.
Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors and supporters, the day raised a total of £3,427 — the equivalent of a full week’s operating costs for the centre.
The standout performers of the day were the Weldall team, captained by David Percox, who emerged victorious with 95-points.
Also returning to the fairways were last year’s runners-up, the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce team, represented by Russell Ashman, Nik Hardy, Martin Hall, and Steve Frost.
The day began with breakfast rolls, tea and coffee on arrival, followed by a shotgun start at 12pm.
After the final putts dropped, players enjoyed a well-earned two-course evening meal, as well as a quick game of Heads and Tails.
Hole sponsors were Rotospa, Find and Finance, CASS Accounting, Ark Media and NA Consulting who helped to ensure maximum fundraising impact.
Brian Davies, fundraising consultant for the Cancer Support Centre, said: "We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout, the incredible standard of play, and the generosity shown by everyone involved.
“In such challenging heat, the teams put on an amazing display and helped raise funds that will make a real difference.
“The £3,427 raised covers an entire week of our operations, which means we can continue to support people in our community who need us most.
“We hope even more teams will join us next summer for the 2026 Charity Golf Day, helping us to raise even more for the Centre. It’s a brilliant day out, and every swing truly makes a difference.”
Planning is already underway for next year’s event in Summer 2026, and the Centre hopes to welcome more teams, attract new sponsors, and raise more funds to help support its vital services.
