Carers Trust Solihull seeks volunteers for new service
Are you someone who lives locally and has time on their hands? Are you retired or looking for a new challenge? Carers Trust Solihull is seeking volunteers for their new service.
Carers Trust Solihull state they are always finding new ways to improve their services supporting unpaid Carers in the borough. Over the past year, they have set up a new service funded by The National Lottery, called The Sitting Service.
The aim of the service is to place volunteers in the homes of Carers. They will sit with the cared-for person for an hour or two so that the Carer can take a break, go to the shops, get their hair done, take a walk, all the while knowing that their cared-for person is safe.
Carers Trust Solihull already know from the four thousand plus Carers who are registered with the charity, how very much this project is needed, but they can`t progress it without the help of volunteers.
Caring for someone brings its challenges, many of the Carers hardly ever leave their home and life can become very lonely. Carers Trust Solihull offer training and if you already have experience of looking after someone with a mental health issue, dementia, or a physical disability then your experience would be especially welcome. The Trust works right across the borough.
Helen Pitt, Sitting & Support Service Co-ordinator, said: “Carers can be hugely undervalued as they carry out their duties looking after someone they love. It is tiring and often frustrating work and carers rarely take a break. That is why a volunteer Sitting Service is so important, it offers a little bit of respite and a little bit of recognition of the important work that carers do. ”
If you would like to join the pool of volunteers then please call Helen Pitt, coordinator of the project, on 0121 828 8832.
