Households across the West Midlands are being encouraged to take part in the nationwide Census 2021 survey, which formally starts surveying in March.

The census is a once-in-a-decade survey of all households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, and produces a detailed picture of those who live and work in the UK.

Census organisers say data from the survey an help businesses, large and small, to plan for the future.

Using census data to inform business plan means you can be better placed to understand and respond to customer needs, identify new markets and plan for growth, census organisers say.

For instance, previous data has shown that Solihull has a rising older population and businesses may use this information to provide goods or services specifically tailored to their needs.

Census 2021 is the first in history to be digital first survey and many are being urged to complete the census online.

Paper questionnaires are still available to access.

Census day, whereby surveying formally begins, takes place on 21 March.

Census letters containing a unique access code will be delivered to households in Solihull from next week where individuals can fill in their questionnaire. Questionnaires can be filled out before census day.
