Centre showcases extravagant opening ceremony costumes

Sutton Coldfield 's Gracechurch shopping centre has been showcasing a spectacular display of costumes which were used in the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

The giant props, built in the Royal Town by local prop makers Duncan Hammond and James Allen, became a huge talking point of the Games celebrations.

The duo to made life-sized creations that celebrated various links to Birmingham inventors and authors.

Car horn back packs were customised with a wire, allowing the performers carrying them to control smoke machines inside of them, while giant books where holes in the top allowed performers to fit through.

They were among are some of the items displayed at Bishop 's Court.

Centre manager Angela Henderson said: “It is really special to house the display of props that were beautifully paraded in the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“We invite all our visitors to come and take a look before it moves on. ”
