Chamber committee member takes on charity challenge
A Lichfield and Tamworth Chamber committee member is taking on a charity challenge in a bid to raise money for brain tumour research.
Nick Biden (pictured), of R&D Tax North West, will be taking part in the RedBrainathon cycling event, taking place this week. The challenge is urging 50 participants to cycle 100 miles by 6 June.
If the challenge is completed, Redbrain will donate £10,000 to brain tumour research.
There are also £5,000 of cash prizes available for charities of the top competiters' choice.
The challenge is being organised by Abi Smith, aged 26 from Lichfield, who was diagnosed in 2019 with an inoperable brain tumour.
After multiple rounds of treatment, Abi is now on a mission to help those facing cancer. She has started making her own handmade cards for fellow cancer patients in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and set up her own dedicated Instagram page, @cancer_card.
In anticipation of the challenge, Nick said: "I 'm supporting the challenge to help raise awareness and much needed funding for a cause which is not widely recognised but can have devastating effects.
"I know three people who have been directly affected, each with different clinical outcomes. The causes aren 't always well understood and this can impact how effective potential treatments are. By supporting the challenge I 'm hoping to improve clinical outcomes."
