Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce is highlighting trade opportunities with Ghana - as the Commonwealth Games' Queen's Baton Relay prepares to reach the African nation.

The Queen 's Baton Relay began its journey around the Commonwealth this month ahead of its arrival in Birmingham for next summer 's 2022 Commonwealth Games.

And the Commonwealth Chamber is going to be highlighting the potential for bilateral trade with countries along the route.

Ghana has a strong, long- standing economic, political and cultural relationship with the UK.

As an English-speaking West African country, Ghana is seen as an attractive prospect for UK businesses and investment, with substantial British investment in the extractives, financial services, gro-processing, infrastructure development and telecommunication sectors of the economy.

The UK is Ghana 's fourth largest import partner, whereas Ghana is the UK 's 75th largest trade partner.

Ghana is considered by the IMF as one of the fastest growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa and globally.

This is driven by expanding oil production along with agriculture, manufacturing, and service sectors.

With a GDP of approximately US$ 74.26BN and abounding in natural resources including gold, cocoa and oil, Ghana is the eighth largest economy in Africa and the second largest economy in West Africa.

Jennifer Blagogee, external relations manager at the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, said: “As the Queen 's Baton relay approaches Ghana, the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce is delighted to be promoting this event in close partnership with the Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber in the United Kingdom.

“We look forward to future collaborations to strengthen the trade and economic ties that exist between both countries. ”
