Chamber leadership campaign secures first headline sponsor
The first headline sponsor has been secured for a major leadership and people management campaign organised by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.
The University of Birmingham 's Work Inclusivity Research Centre (WIRC) is backing the month-long Growth Through People Campaign, which concludes with a conference on 30 March.
WIRC is a dynamic community of researchers and partners who study of issues of equality, diversity and inclusion in employment and who are guided by principles of social justice.
The group is based within Birmingham Business School but includes colleagues from across disciplines such as sociology, economics, industrial relations, and psychology.
WIRC is made up of six work streams - Diversity and Inclusivity within Organisations; Inclusivity in Education; Inclusive Labour Governance and Employee Voice; Trust; Labour Market Inequalities and Disadvantages and Wellbeing in the Workplace.
Growth Through People aims to improve leadership and people management skills by encouraging the adoption of best practice approaches to leadership and people management.
Delegates can book their places now for the Chamber 's second annual Growth Through People conference, as well as being able to take advantage of a series of expert-led webinars, thought leadership blogs, videos and a mini series on the Chamber podcast channel.
The 30 March conference - which is being delivered online - will feature inspirational keynote speakers, high-profile panellists and practical workshops on topical leadership and people management challenges following the impacts of Brexit and Covid-19.
It will also provide an opportunity to network with other local leaders, managers and decision makers from businesses looking to grow through the adoption of new, best-practice ideas.
Both the conference and virtual events are free for Chamber members. Conference tickets are £15 for non-members.
In 2020, Growth Through People was adapted so that it could be delivered online due to the pandemic.
Around 400 delegates attended events, webinars and the inaugural conference.
Digital thought leadership, advice and guidance published as part of the campaign received 3.1million impressions on Twitter.
Professor Joanne Duberley (pictured), deputy pro-vice-chancellor (equality, diversity and inclusion) and co-director of the WIRC, said: “Growth Through People is now more than ever, an incredibly important initiative for the region 's business community to tap into. We highly commend the Chamber for continuing to offer local businesses access to all the expertise, knowledge and support out there to help industry recover and rebuild.
“At the Birmingham Business School Work Inclusivity Research Centre we are committed to improving issues of equality, diversity and inclusion in employment and the workplace and applying best practice, as evidenced by our research, to tackle real world industry challenges. ”
Chamber chief executive Paul Faulkner said: “We are delighted to announce that the University of Birmingham 's Work Inclusivity Research Centre will be a headline sponsor of the Chamber 's Growth Through People campaign this year.
“We very much look forward to featuring their research-led insights on key areas of leadership and people management, including inclusivity, trust and wellbeing with delegates as we dive into the particular challenges of these uncertain times.
