Two Chamber members have joined forces to help football clubs improve their environmental performance.

Birmingham County Football Association (BCFA) and Birmingham Energy Initiative (BEI) have announced a new partnership to support clubs with improving sustainability, through BCFA 's 'Save Today, Play Tomorrow ' project.

Both members took a proactive approach to engaging in the Chamber network and are now reaping the rewards.

The project 'Save Today, Play Tomorrow ' is guided by UN Sports for Climate Action and focuses on four main sustainability priority areas - health and wellbeing, education, climate action and life on land.

It has launched this year in a bid to drive sustainability across the BCFAs reach of 100,000 registered players and 4750 clubs.

Birmingham Energy Initiative is a community focused energy company which aims to close the gap in fuel poverty, accelerate sustainability education (through an innovative educating energy platform) and boost sustainable energy for Birmingham.

The partnership aims to raise the profile of fuel poverty, and the increase education, resources and guidance that clubs and players can access to stimulate increased environmental performance and behavioural change.

It highlights how businesses like the BCFA are taking steps to lead sustainable change across sports, but also how local organisations such as the BEI can help businesses increase the pace of progress.

Tom Bailey, founder of the Birmingham Energy Initiative, said: “We're committed to creating long-standing positive changes in the community.

“We work with local authorities, charities, education institutions and businesses to develop engaging extra-curricular activities and understanding, as well as deploying net zero services as a solution to help them offset carbon.

“We believe investing in our community at grassroots level, helping create long-term education and understanding on all topical energy related subject matters. ”

Richard Lindsay (pictured), business insights manager and Save Today, Play Tomorrow project lead, added: “Partnering with Birmingham Energy Initiative gives us a fantastic platform to offer all of our clubs and their members - no matter what size or level of football - the opportunity to be part of a community dedicated to change through football.

“The solutions on offer will help clubs achieve considerable carbon emissions reductions with the co-benefit of saving money, making them more sustainable both on and off the pitch. ”

Will Hargreaves, policy lead on environmental sustainability at the Chamber, said: “It 's great to see the power of the Chamber network in creating strong business partnerships, especially when they focus on tackling the climate crisis.

“With many businesses starting to implement plans around environmental sustainability the Chamber network can help connect you to the right businesses to help you along the way. ”

“I urge members to make the most of their membership by proactively engaging in the Chamber network and utilising the full potential of what the Chamber can offer. ”
