Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce patron and board member Doug Wright has received his MBE from HRH Prince William.

Mr Wright - who employs around 2,500 people across the West Midlands through his McDonald 's franchised business Douglas Wright Restaurants (T/A McDonald 's) - was awarded in the Queen 's Jubilee Honours last year for services to the economy and charity.

He was presented with the honour at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

As well as rising through the ranks at McDonald 's to become one of the brand 's most successful franchisees, Mr Wright also helped to raise millions of pounds for Ronald McDonald House Charities during his time as chair.

He said: “I was delighted to receive my MBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday from HRH The Prince of Wales.

“It was an amazing day and I felt very lucky to receive such a significant honour.

“I 've had a very challenging life and survived a pretty nasty accident where I was fortunate to walk again.

“Thank you to everyone who have been part of my business and charitable journey. This award means a great deal to me and my family. ”

Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: "It is fantastic to see Doug recognised at this highest level.

“The impact he has made on the businesses and charities he has championed support for, and the individuals he has mentored, is phenomenal.

“His entrepreneurial journey and success are an inspiration to many.

“As a non-executive director of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and patron through his company Douglas Wright (t/a McDonalds) he is a real force for good within our Chamber movement.

“On behalf of our Chamber, congratulations Doug, and we look forward to seeing you continue to positively shape the region over the years to come."
