Chamber’s Black Business Collective issues statement following death of Professor Jason Arday
Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s Black Business Collective has issued a statement following the death of Professor Jason Arday.
Professor Arday (pictured), aged 41, was found at his London home on Friday.
Professor Arday had resigned from his role as a professor of sociology of education at Cambridge University after being the subject of plagiarism allegations, which he denied.
A statement from the Black Business Collective said: “The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Black Business Collective is deeply saddened and disturbed by the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Professor Jason Arday last Friday.
“While there will understandably be many comments, perspectives and opinions surrounding recent events, we must not lose sight of the profound human impact of this tragedy and the effect it is having on so many people.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Professor Arday’s family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew, worked with and were inspired by him at this incredibly difficult time.
“The Black Business Collective remains committed to supporting our community and to creating spaces where people can connect, be heard, feel supported and have their achievements recognised and celebrated.
“At this incredibly difficult time, we stand in solidarity with all those affected.
“We also welcome any appropriate action that enables lessons to be learned from this and other heartbreaking events, and which leads to meaningful, lasting change that better supports the wellbeing, safety and dignity of people in professional and public life.”
Chris Cummins, chair of the Black Business Collective, added: “Professor Arday achieved so much and inspired so many all over the UK.
“As we look back on his life and legacy, may we ensure that his contribution, his achievements and the people he touched remain at the heart of how he is remembered.”
