Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce will be joining forces with the Department for International Trade tomorrow at an event dubbed 'exporting for beginners '.

Chris McFarlane Baxter (pictured), head of international divisions, and Russell Ashman, head of new business, will be representing the GBCC at the upcoming Export Academy Live event at the ICC in Centenary Square.

The UK Export Academy, created by the DIT, is a free training programme delivered through a hybrid of online and face-to-face learning.

It aims to lay the foundations for new and potential exporters of products and services.

Events like this live session are ideal for the Chamber to explore synergies with the UK Government department whose remit is to increase exports.

The comprehensive and ambitious programme of events and one-to-one support are the ideal and logical next step for SMEs taking their first steps into international markets.

Only one in 10 UK companies export their products or services on a regular basis; yet exporting accounts for around 27 per cent of GDP.

Chris McFarlane Baxter said: “One of the key tasks for our International Divisions is to join up the dots with partner organisations, such as DIT, to make companies aware of the breadth of support available out there -much of it free- which can supplement Chamber membership. ”
