Chamber team to line up in charity cricket match
A charity cricket match featuring a team from Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is taking place this month - with the aim of raising thousands of pounds for a local children 's hospice.
Birmingham-based travel agency Pak Travels organise the annual event which has raised more than £50,000 for Acorns Children 's Hospice over the past seven years.
Following an enforced break last year due to the pandemic, the match returns on Sunday 25 July when Pak Travels take on a Chamber team at Solihull School.
As well as the cricket, the event features lots of family fun with a BBQ and other activities.
There will also be an auction with items including an Aston Villa shirt signed by Jack Grealish, a cricket bat signed by the Pakistan team, two Qatar Airways flight tickets and an England cricket shirt signed by Birmingham-born fast bowler Saqib Mahmood.
Pak Travels are members of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce and have just celebrated 50 years in business.
The firm specialise in providing low-cost worldwide air travel and wide range of hotels across the globe.
Director Hamza Waris said: “As an Aston Villa fan I was aware of Acorns through their links with the club and, having researched the charity a bit further, we realised exactly what a deserving cause Acorns is. ”
Acorns chief executive Toby Porter said: “Pak Travels have raised a stunning amount for Acorns over the years and we were very grateful to be the chosen charity once again for this fabulous event.
“We can only continue providing care to children and their families with the support of our local community - so thank you to everyone who will get involved on the day to raise much needed funds. ”
The Chamber team will be captained by Naeem Arif, vice president of the Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce.
