Chamber to brief businesses on Brexit deal
Greater Birmingham businesses will be briefed on the UK 's new trading relationship with the EU during a Chamber-hosted webinar, taking place this week.
International and policy advisers and experts will be discussing what the UK-EU Brexit deal means for business during a virtual Brexit Drop-In Clinic, taking place on 7 January starting at 11am.
Speakers include Pete West, international trade adviser at Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC), who will be providing the latest import and export guidance and intelligence, David Harris, documentation business manager at the GBCC, who will explain key export documentation including customs declarations, certificates of origin and carnets, and Sunny Claire, Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) business adviser, who will discuss EEN 's support for businesses.
The event will be hosted by the Chamber 's director of policy and strategic relationships, Henrietta Brealey. She will provide an overview of what is, and isn 't, included in the trade deal.
The UK-EU Brexit deal was ratified by the government in December, following months of negotiations. Changes to the way the UK trades with EU countries came into effect on 1 January.
Ms Brealey said: “This deal was agreed on Christmas Eve for implementation on New Year 's Eve during a pandemic. There 's a heck of a lot in it - and plenty that 's not too - that has significant implications for businesses.
“This session will give our members a quick fire update on what we know so far. It 's a chance for a sense check with our expert international trade and export documentations teams on what 's been agreed and what we 're hearing so far from businesses.
“We also want to use this session to hear from you on the implications you are seeing from the new trading relationship so far to inform future activity.
“The issues at play here are complex and vary significantly business to business. We are also running a full Brexit Clinic on the 25 January with external guest experts in VAT, international trade in goods and services and more to help our members access free professional advice and support.
“The Brexit deal may be done but it 's far from over yet - we will continue to support businesses in understanding and adapting to the new trading environment while also lobbying on their behalf. There 's still plenty for the UK and EU to negotiate and work towards on reducing barriers to trade with the main issues becoming clearer over the coming weeks. ”
