Business leaders in Greater Birmingham are urging the public to support local businesses as a number of sectors prepare to reopen their doors this week.

From today, non-essential retail, beauty salons, gyms and outdoor attractions will be able to open their doors, while hospitality venues can operate outdoors by following Covid-secure regulations.

It will be the first time many businesses have been able to trade for several months as the Government implements stage two of its roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions.

Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce is hosting a 'Twitter Takeover ' today, with the official @GrBhamChambers account being handed over to businesses who are reopening or preparing to reopen.

Businesses can join the discussion by using the hashtag #KeepBusinessMoving

Chief executive Henrietta Brealey (pictured) said: “Businesses across Greater Birmingham have been working incredibly hard to reopen after this challenging period.

“The whole of team Chamber are sending our best wishes and support to those members getting back (to some degree at least) to what they do best over the coming days.

“I hope that readers will join us in championing these businesses through the social media takeover and getting out and about safely over the coming weeks.

“Whatever your plans, remember the essentials: hands, space, face and ventilate, make use of free lateral flow testing options and be patient and respectful as staff get to grips with operating under significant numbers of Covid restrictions. ”

However, a number of sectors such as event and performance venues and indoor attractions and hospitality remain closed and Ms Brealey added: “While we are excited about saying a big welcome back to some of our members, we know that there 's still a long way to go on the full roadmap to recovery.

“Whether your business is able to reopen under stage two (even to a limited degree), remains in lockdown or has otherwise been impacted by the pandemic, the Chamber team are on hand to support our members however they can. ”
