A special 80th anniversary is taking place that will help bring older people together to enjoy music, movement and social connection through dance.

The event hosted by Birmingham charity BCOP (Broadening Choices for Older People) will be held at Neville Williams House in Selly Park.

The event will take guests on a joyful journey through the decades, celebrating the music, memories and milestones that have shaped the lives of BCOP residents over the past 80 years.

The team will take residents, families and guests on a nostalgic journey through some of the most memorable dances of the past 80 years.

From the playful steps of the Charleston to the energy of rock and roll, the fun of the Mashed Potato, and the crowd favourite YMCA.

As part of the celebrations, the charity is also launching a fundraising appeal to create a new sensory street at Neville Williams House a dedicated space designed to support people living with dementia.

The project aims to build a familiar, calming environment that can help reduce anxiety, stimulate memories and improve quality of life for residents

The new facility will directly benefit people in Selly Park and surrounding areas, providing a valuable local resource for individuals and families affected by dementia.

Helen Gore, CEO of BCOP, said: “Reaching 80 years is a significant milestone for our charity, and we’re proud to celebrate it alongside the people at the heart of everything we do—our residents.

At the same time, we are looking ahead, investing in environments that will make a real difference to people living with dementia in our local community.”
