Charity calls for volunteering opportunities in Kenya

The Footprints Charity is calling for businesses in the region to volunteer and be a part of a thriving community that supports over 160 children and families in Kenya.

The charity was founded by Kerry Watson from Burton - driven by a personal journey of adoption and a passion to give vulnerable children in Kenya the chance of a brighter future.

Today, Footprints Kenya is a thriving centre that provides education, healthcare, and food support to over 160 children and community families.

Volunteering in Kenya with Footprints allows staff to immerse themselves in a different culture, to see the daily realities of poverty, overcrowded schools, and limited healthcare—and to play a part in tackling those challenges.

Volunteers can join Footprints Kenya for a period of 10 days to 3 weeks, with a programme designed to both utilise their professional skill sets and take them out of their comfort zones.

Staff may support classrooms, contribute to community farming projects, assist with building initiatives, or share expertise in areas such as IT, business, or healthcare.

Importantly, they also spend time with local families—witnessing the daily struggles of poverty and limited resources, gaining first-hand insight into the challenges faced.

Kerry Watson said: “The most common feedback we hear is that it’s life-changing.

“Staff come back with a new perspective, stronger teamwork skills, and a greater appreciation for what we can achieve when we work together.”

A Burton based business that sent in a volunteering team last year said: “The experience completely changed how we see the world,”

“It opened our eyes to the wider issues in the world. Our staff returned with new skills, stronger bonds, and a real sense of purpose.

“It wasn’t just good for the charity—it was good for our business too.

“It was the best investment in team development we’ve ever made—and knowing we contributed to such an inspiring charity made it even more worthwhile.”
