Charity launches cycling challenge for International Women’s Day
Smart Works, a charity that coaches and dresses unemployed women for interview and job success, has launched a cycling challenge during International Women’s Day (IWD).
Participants can choose from three different distances across two action-packed weeks (28 February to 8 March) for one powerful purpose and combine the thrill of cycling with the joy of empowering a woman for job success.
Lilly Clements, fundraising & partnerships manager at Smart Works Birmingham said: “Cycle for Smart Works is such a great challenge for corporate teams to get involved in as you can work together to cover the miles.
“You can cycle outside or even in the gym at a spin class, some corporates have even hired a static bike for the office! What better way to show your support for International Women’s Day.”
International Women’s Day 2024 will take place on 8th March and the theme this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. The overall aim of IWD 2024 #InspireInclusion campaign is to collectively forge a more inclusive world for women.
Smart Works Birmingham is a charity that coaches and dresses unemployed women for interview and job success.
The charity gives women in disadvantaged circumstances from across the West Midlands the confidence and skills to overcome barriers to employment and transform their lives.
Each woman benefits from a personalised dressing consultation with trained volunteers to find a high-quality interview outfit (free of charge and hers to keep) that will build her confidence and self-esteem, followed by one-to-one interview coaching to develop her skills and increase her potential to succeed at job interviews.
The charity is desperately needed now more than ever due to the huge impact of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. Almost half of households in the West Midlands fall within the 20 per cent most deprived areas in England. The unemployment rate for the West Midlands is 6.9 per cent which is much higher than the national average of 3.8 per cent.
