Charity launches first national employability week to empower young people
EmployabilityUK, an award-winning national charity, has launched the UK’s first official National Employability Week, taking place from 7–11 July 2025.
Kicking off in the West Midlands, the campaign will unite schools, colleges, businesses, and communities to equip young people with the essential skills, confidence and experiences they need to succeed in the world of work.
National Employability Week 2025 aims to reach thousands of young people through a coordinated week of inspiring activities, including career talks, CV workshops, mock interviews, mentoring and real-world work experiences.
Formally announcing National Employability Week, deputy regional mayor and Birmingham City Council, deputy leader, Councillor Sharon Thompson, said: “National Employability Week is an exciting opportunity to come together with partners across the region to empower our young people with the confidence, skills and experiences they need to thrive.
“By working collaboratively—across education, business and the voluntary sector—we can open doors to brighter futures and help shape a generation that is ready and equipped for the world of work.”
With youth employment challenges growing and businesses facing skills shortages, National Employability Week provides a unique platform to build meaningful partnerships between education and industry.
In his call to action, Rt Hon Robert Halfon, Former Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education said: “If we’re serious about levelling up, businesses must play their part. I urge employers to back National Employability Week — whether through funding, mentoring or offering opportunities. Together, we can change lives and build a workforce fit for the future.”
EmployabilityUK is inviting employers, educators and community leaders to get involved by pledging an activity during the week, sharing career stories, hosting workplace visits, or volunteering time to mentor and inspire young people.
Di Vernon MBE, Chief Executive of EmployabilityUK said: “This is about unlocking potential and building brighter futures.
“With the support of our partners and by engaging with future talent, we are creating a powerful national movement that will grow year on year – from the Midlands in 2025 to a UK-wide initiative by 2027.”
