Cricket stars Jonathan Trott and Keaton Jennings will join Cure Leukaemia in launching a new social event at Sixes in central Birmingham.

The event is set up as a fundraiser for the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network across the UK and specifically the Centre for Haemotology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

As part of the charities 'Your 14 campaign ' that highlights 'every 14 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer ', the 'Your 14 Cricket Blast ' will see teams of five compete in a tournament, playing head-to-head matches in the batting cages to see which team can score more runs in 14 minutes.

Delivered in association with the team at Sixes, the tournament is being held from 4pm on Tuesday, 16 May with drinks, food and music all part of the 'social cricket ' Sixes experience.

In addition, Cure Leukaemia ambassadors and England cricketers, Jonathan Trott and Keaton Jennings will be in attendance, participating in a Q&A, a batting clinic and being available for teams to 'super charge ' their run-scoring with the professionals should they need it.

Three times Ashes winner, Jonathan Trott said: “Cure Leukaemia events are always a lot of fun and this event looks no different! Sport is such a brilliant way for friends and colleagues to come together and this has the added bonus of being for a great cause. ”

Lancashire CCC captain Keaton Jennings added: “I can 't wait to see what help I might be able to offer the teams participating in the Your 14 Cricket Blast.

“To hear that someone is diagnosed with blood cancer every 14 minutes is a shocking stat when I think about how many people that equates to over a 4 day match I play at Old Trafford for Lancs. Raising awareness and funds for clinical trials across the UK is something I am delighted to be part of. ”

The event is being held as part of Cure Leukaemia 's ongoing Your 14 campaign, launched during Blood Cancer Awareness last September, it sees the charity calling upon the CL family and the entire nation to raise money and awareness by completing challenges that relate to the number 14 or derivatives of it.

Cure Leukaemia chief executive James McLaughlin commented: “We are always looking for new, fun and exciting ways for people to get involved with what we do and 'Your 14 '. We are delighted to be working with Daniel Bodycote and the team at Sixes to bring this new fundraising event to life.

“The concept takes inspiration from our hugely successful Copa del Cure Leukaemia football tournaments and we hope this event will be something we can roll out across the Sixes network. ”

Only four teams are left available to participate in the tournament which are available for £400 each. The team price includes 2 drinks and a pizza per person at Sixes, a Q&A, batting clinic, meet and greet and photo opportunity with Jonathan and Keaton.
