Charity steps up 'sepsis savvy' campaign
Sutton Coldfield-based charity the UK Sepsis Trust has been ramping up its activity to coincide with World Sepsis Day and Sepsis Awareness Month.
World Sepsis Day took place on Wednesday, while Sepsis Awareness Month runs throughout September.
The UKST, which was founded in Sutton, is encouraging more people to become 'sepsis savvy' during September.
Founder and joint CEO Dr Ron Daniels said: “We need the public to feel empowered to just ask healthcare professionals 'Could it be sepsis?' if they're worried in the wake of an infection.
“That's why this September we're asking people to take five minutes to get sepsis savvy. It's completely free and it could help save a life.”
To mark World Sepsis Day, the charity created a new landing page on its website, with key information, as well as resource packs for key stakeholders including individuals, businesses, schools, community and healthcare organisations.
The UKST also took part in a series of activities and campaigns on World Sepsis Day, including:
- Prime time media coverage on BBC Breakfast, Sky News and Channel 5, as well as articles in local and national press
- Significant activity in hospitals across the country with hundreds of hospitals sharing posts on Twitter and volunteers delivering talks
- Over 5.5 million impressions from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok advertising
- £8,98 donated directly or in response to World Sepsis Day email communications -excluding all fundraising activities taking place across the country
- Double the amount of support contacts compared to an average Wednesday
- More than 5,000 people played the Sepsis Savvy game
- More than 2,000 views of the updated Sepsis Savvy video - which is being added to the Boots Health Hub
- Buildings lit up for WSD, including Aviva's offices in London, York and Norwich, as well as several town halls
- World Sepsis Day debate led by Christina Rees MP at Westminster Hall
- Charity with Aplastic Anaemia Trust, Air Ambulance UK, Guts UK, St Andrew's First Aid, Mini First Aid
