Sands, a charity that support people affected by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby will be leading the Baby Loss Awareness Week in the UK.

During the week, communities come together to increase understanding of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss and remember and commemorate all babies' lives.

It also plays a crucial role in raising awareness of the importance of ongoing bereavement support and the essential work required to improve pregnancy outcomes and save babies’ lives.

An initiative started by a group of parents 21 years ago, it has now evolved into an Alliance of over 130 dedicated organisations.

The week ends with the global ‘Wave of Light’ on 15 October. Everyone is invited, wherever they are in the world, to light a candle at 7pm local time as a special mark of support and remembrance.

Sands will be supporting businesses who are recognising the week, to start the conversation and raise awareness of the support services available for their colleagues and customers, and are inviting businesses to become a Sands Champion for Baby Loss Awareness Week by holding events and discussions in their workplace, lighting up pink and blue, and by taking part in the Sands Ribbon Run.

Carolyn Bray, assistant director of income and supporter engagement at Sands and Co-Founder of Baby Loss Awareness week said: “We are extremely proud of the progress that has been made during the last 21 years, with participation and support growing year on year.

“Businesses continue to play a huge role in the impact of the campaign and here at Sands we are dedicated to support the business community to enable better support for any colleagues who have been affected.

“Most importantly, this is a week where we focus on taking care of you. If you or any of your colleagues, friends or family have been affected by pregnancy and or baby loss, reach out to Sands for support, whenever you need”
