Halesowen College welcomed community groups into its setting for afternoon tea as part of the UK’s ‘Big Lunch 2024’ celebrations.

The annual event brings communities together for a few hours of friendship, food and fun, connecting people and encouraging friendlier, safer communities.

Joining the event was Deputy Lieutenant Nick Venning, representing the Lord-Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Sir John Crabtree OBE.

Throughout these celebrations that are hosted nationwide, over a thousand people are set to attend lunches, afternoon teas and picnics which will coincide with the year’s Big Lunch project to celebrate everything that makes our communities great.

Commenting on the afternoon, Deputy Lieutenant Nick Venning said: “A really uplifting afternoon and good to see the College engaging with such a diverse gathering of local community organisations.

“We all talk about social cohesion; and indeed this was social cohesion at its very best.

“Such events also present a valuable opportunity for students to showcase their skills which they did in fine style! Well done to all involved.”

Principal and chief executive of Halesowen College said: “It was a great pleasure to welcome in a diverse range of people from across our community.”

“I would like to thank Deputy Lieutenant Nick Venning and all of those people that took time and came along to join us in the celebrations.”
