Chamber patron King Edward’s School (KES) has announced another year of excellent GCSE results, showcasing the hard work of its pupils.

Top grades achieved by Fifth Form pupils were all above those recorded in 2019 (the year before COVID-related special arrangements for GCSE grading were in place).

This year:

  • 43 per cent of grades were 9s (2023: 44 per cent, 2019: 40 per cent)
  • 69 per cent of grades were 9-8s (2023: 69 per cent, 2019: 68 per cent)
  • 86 per cent of grades were 9-7s (2023: 88 per cent, 2019: 85 per cent).

Of the cohort of 132 pupils, 95 per cent took at least 10 GCSEs. Thirteen pupils achieved at least ten straight 9s of whom three achieved 11 straight 9s across their GCSEs.

Kirsty von Malaisé, chief master and principal designate, KES & KEHS, said: “KES pupils’ GCSE results this year highlight fantastic achievements across a diverse range of subjects.

“These impressive results attest to the hard work and ambition of our pupils, supported by our committed and inspiring teachers.

“The boys’ achievements at GCSE and all of their many personal successes outside the formal curriculum at KES will provide a strong foundation for their future success in the Sixth Form.”

A compulsory part of the GCSE curriculum, KES pupils’ achievements in Mathematics are impressive, with 84 per cent of the year group achieving grades 9-8.

In Design and Technology, 94 per cent of pupils achieved grades 9-7.

A significant number of boys continue to study the Classical Languages of Latin and Greek at GCSE, with 82 per cent achieving grades 9-7 in Latin and 100 per cent in Greek.

Drama saw similar success, with 100 per cent of pupils achieving grades 9-7, and the King Edward’s commitment to offering boys a full suite of options within the Arts is steadfast.

Notably, the most common grade awarded across all subjects was a 9, reflecting the academic excellence of KES pupils.

Last month, KES was proud to release its IB results, which have opened doors to an impressive range of Higher Education destinations.
