Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) held a Wellbeing Week during 22 to 26 May to encourage students and staff to look at different ways they can improve their health and wellbeing.

The event focused on a range of areas, including mental health, physical health and the importance of people looking after the general wellbeing of themselves and others.

During the week, students and staff could book onto a range of health and wellbeing themed sessions and activities, including yoga, gym sessions run by Sports learners and relaxing massages and beauty treatments by Beauty learners.

As part of the event, the College 's reception was home to a Wellbeing Fair which included a marketplace of partner organisations offering advice and support on issues such as mental health, sexual health and drug abuse.

The College also promoted the Fika Mental Fitness App which all staff and students have access to which helps to improve the seven skills of mental fitness - connection, stress, meaning, positivity, focus, motivation and confidence - with a range of 5-minute daily exercises.

Marie Linehan, progress coach at BSDC said: “The idea of Wellbeing Week is to promote happiness and spread positivity for both staff and learners. Mental and physical health are extremely important factors in ensuring people 's general wellbeing. Events like this put important issues into the spotlight and help everyone to be happy and successful. ”
